Remembering the Holocaust

These are museum-quality exhibits designed to promote dialogue about the Holocaust, to impart its universal lessons and to foster a connection to its relevance to daily life.

The Holocaust was the systematic annihilation of six million Jewish people by Germany’s Nazi regime. It is a unique event in the history of humankind, in that one specific people, the Jews, were marked for destruction by a government. It should also be remembered that other groups and individuals (including Gypsies, homosexuals, political dissidents and the intellectually and physically disabled) were also targeted by the Nazis.

It is an event that should never be forgotten.

The displays have been developed by Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center based in Israel; the Jewish Museum in Melbourne; Shadows of Shoah and produced by the Queensland Jewish Board of Deputies, the roof body of Queensland Jewry, with assistance from the Queensland Government. The manufacturers of the display were SignSite Group in Brisbane.

The suitcases were custom fabricated by SignSite Group from aluminium and made to resemble the suitcases carried by Jewish people at the time. Each case tells a story from that time, items are displayed within each suitcase and digital displays present video and stories from Holocaust survivors. They have been fabricated to allow ease of transport whilst remaining durable and of museum quality.

SignSite Group is proud to have been part of this important exhibit, we thank Mr Jason Steinberg, Mr Trevor Evans MP, Mr Tim Nicholls MP, Principal Ros Curtis (St Margaret's), and many others who attended St Margaret's recently to launch this important exhibit.
